Wednesday

In what amounts to an embarrassment of TV-show riches, we currently have both Canal Digital and Boxer set up here at home. Since we moved into this house nearly three years ago we’ve had Boxer, but we’ve talked back and forth most of that time about switching services. Ultimately we decided–a couple of weeks ago when they had a free-installation offer–to go with Canal Digital and we had it set up yesterday.

Because it was something of a spur-of-the-moment decision we haven’t yet canceled our Boxer subscription, and even when (if?) we do cancel it we have to give a three-month notice, meaning that we’ll have both for a while. Right now we’ve got the Boxer upstairs in the “sitting room” and the Canal Digital downstairs in the main living room (previously known as “The Big Room”), and though it seems in some ways like overkill, I can also see some good in keeping both of them. Such a dilemma.

In other news, I’ve been working today on doing some translation work for a couple of other Americans in Sweden who have started a business selling sling baby carriers. I’m translating from English to Swedish, which is much more difficult than the other way around. It’s coming along, though. I was thanking my lucky stars earlier for Ulrika, who helped me with a few words I was finding impossible to translate. Olof has been giving all of my work a final read-through before I send it, but he’s not much help with translating “specialty” terms like “toile” and the like. Not only that, but his Swedish is defintely the worse for living in an English-language household and working for an English-language company.

  1. We are the same way…we’ve had both viasat and boxer. But now we are cancelling viasat since Boxer has all the channels we need anyway.

  2. I think the reason we might end up keeping Boxer is because Canal Digital doesn’t have channel 3 or ZTV (but it does have Cartoon Network, Fox Kids, and BBC Prime, which is why we got it).
