Starting tomorrow Lydia is “Star of the Week” for her class. (Sidenote: I have no idea why they don’t call it Veckans Stjärna, and I find the all-too-frequent, inexplicable use of English here faintly annoying.) On each day of the week she’ll give a little presentation about herself, her interests, her family, and so on. Tomorrow she’s supposed to take a baby picture and tell the details of her birth: where, when, how much she weighed and measured, and any interesting tidbits from her babyhood. She’s a bit anxious about having to say that she was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, and she doesn’t quite believe me when I tell her that it’s fine to use English pronunciation for that part. I have to say, it was a bit difficult for me to keep a straight face when she kept saying “Tveen Foles, EEE-Dah-Hoe.” Mindful of the Kentucky bourbon incident, however, I didn’t press the issue.
It was fun going through the photo album this evening and letting her choose a picture to take with her. This is the picture she settled on, though I was hoping she would pick one that showed off her wild tumult of curls or another of my favorites. I guess I’ll just have to save those for another time.
The funny thing is that you know she will also hit a stage where Twin Falls Idaho will be an extremely exotic-sounding place to have been born and she’ll be saying it with the most awesome Midwestern dialect possible!
You’re probably right! Although I’m hoping she foregoes the midwestern accent, since we’re from the Rocky Mountain west! 😉
