Rush

We don’t often leave our dogs home alone because they’re a tad on the destructive side when left to their own devices and we haven’t yet gotten around to buying crates for them (quality crates for big dogs don’t come cheap, I’m afraid). On occasion, however, it does happen that we all have to be somewhere that the dogs aren’t welcome. Those days we batten down the hatches as securely as we can and hope for the best.

This morning we had an appointment with the midwife bright and early at 8:15 and the dogs were on their own in the house for about an hour. When we got home most everything was in one piece. The thing that wasn’t was the cork lid to the jar where Olof keeps his instant cappuccino powder, a jar we had neglected in our haste to put out of canine reach before leaving the house.

As you can see, the jar–made as it is from thick glass–survived intact, but there was nary a trace of cappuccino powder to be found, though the jar was nearly full when last we saw it.

Judging from the dogs’ behavior upon our return, it was Asbjørn who lapped up the bulk of the sugary-caffeiny goodness. While Lucy seemed her normal self, Asbjørn was rather like an undergrad who’s pulled an all-nighter guzzling strong coffee and popping No-Doz. Only now, several hours later, has he stopped panting and pacing. I think, actually, that he might be sleeping. Or perhaps I should say “crashed.” What goes up must come down, after all.

  1. If you’d left out beer and pizza it’d been a real college experience.

I talk like I know…haha…but I never got to experience those things in community college. 😉

  2. Ouch! Is he ok?? Coffee is not a good thing for a dog.

They can get really tall when they want to, the sweet dogs. 🙂
