Gourmet cooking

Olof and Lydia just spent a couple of hours making beef in wine sauce, diligently peeling and chopping, slicing and dicing, seasoning and frying, and ultimately serving up an impressive meal. Then they got to work on a pot of minestrone, and all the while I sat on the couch leafing through the new fall catalogues.

Too bad they weren’t upstairs in the kitchen, but sitting next to me on the couch. Instead of spoons and spatulas, their utensils of choice were Wii remotes — Olof’s birthday present to Lydia was Cooking Mama, an unlikely video game title if ever I heard one. It looked like fun, though, I have to admit, and I expect I’ll get suckered into playing myself sooner rather than later.

  1. We have that game too!! It’s one of Hailey’s favorites. Maybe you can tell me what Mama is saying half the time, because I can’t understand her accent. And tell Lydia happy birthday. I thought about her this morning.

  2. I think the only thing I can understand her saying is “Awesome!”

I’ve passed on the birthday wishes, and Lydia says thank you. 🙂

  3. She says things like ‘I’ll help you’ when you screw up. or ‘Getting better!’ and stuff like that. *grin* You should check out the ‘American’ recipes that game has. Things like hot dogs, hamburgers, and popcorn. 😉
