We finally steeled ourselves for the hit to our bank account and took Lucy to the vet on Thursday and had her spayed. All went well, but she’s really hating life right now. I don’t think she’s in much pain, but it does seem like her incision itches and she has a bit of a rash around the incision site (probably from the shaving, it looks like), and I think that’s bothering her, too. While I’m generally no fan of the lamp-shade collars the vet sends home and usually take them off as soon as possible, I’ve had to leave Lucy’s on because she’s something of an obsessive licker. The collar does serve its intended purpose of preventing her from getting at the incision, but I think it’s also the largest source of pain/irritation/discomfort for all of us. Not only does she keep getting her head caught in too-small spaces and freaking out, but she scrapes the hard edges up against our bare legs whenever we least expect it. She’s a regular menace with that headgear, I tell you.
