Friday

Another downside to the very late sunset is all the raucous noise made by little kids playing outside long past the time that they should be in bed. Right now it’s after ten p.m. and there’s at least one rowdy band of boys about Lydia’s age running around the neighborhood yelling and jumping their bikes and whatnot. True, it’s Friday, but I guess my age is showing because I like things to settle down after a certain point in the evening.

Speaking of settling down, that’s the one thing Tage would not do last-night-slash-this morning. He fell asleep on the couch just after eight o’clock, which is a bit early for him but not exceedingly so. When we took him to bed around eleven he was still asleep but starting to get a little restless, and he woke up for good at two in the morning. I tried for over three hours to get him to go back to sleep, but he was having none of it (due at least in part, I know, to the fact that it didn’t look at all like bedtime outside, what with the sun shining and the birds singing).

At five o’clock I gave up and asked Olof if he could take over. The two of them went downstairs and when I went down myself more than two hours later, Tage was still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. He finally crashed about ten-thirty this morning and slept for a couple of hours, but he’s been as energetic as ever since he got up at lunchtime. I wish I knew where he gets his stamina … I could sure use some.

  1. The sunlight is KILLER for small kids. I had to baby sit a toddler once around midsommar, and it was like she would not STOP moving so I couldn’t put her in her pen or something b/c she’d just make a rucus. I think I got 3 hours sleep in 3 days. When mom and dad got home though, she crashed for six hours after I left. Needless to say I took a day-long-nap myself. Hopefully Olof can help you out some.
