Lime Sublime

Yesterday afternoon I got a sudden hankering for sweet rolls and decided to whip up a batch. At first I was going to go with the old stand-by, Swedish kanelbullar, but I started thinking that I can have those anytime and that I was more in the mood for American-style sweet rolls. I briefly contemplated making cinnamon rolls, but discarded the idea as they’re not too, too different from kanelbullar.

I decided, finally, to make Carolyn’s famous orange rolls, only with a twist. Since I had no oranges but I did have a couple of limes sitting on my kitchen counter, I figured I might as well give lime rolls a shot. They turned out to be delicious, with just the right blend of sweet and tart. The only downside is that the grated lime peel looks a bit too much like chopped spinach or oregano or some other green, distinctly un-sweet-roll-like ingredient. If you can overlook that, however, you’re in for a tasty treat.
