This weekend we had been planning to go to a “cow release” at one of the local dairy farms and watch as the milk cows were let out to graze after a long winter in the barn. These events have turned into a sort of tradition all over Sweden, and they seem to be getting more popular by the year. We went a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun to see, so I was looking forward to attending another one. Unfortunately, though, we were beset with low temperatures, high winds, and heavy rains on both Saturday and Sunday, so we decided to give it a miss.
Those plans scrapped, I was happily anticipating a long lie-in, but on Sunday I found myself wide awake just past eight o’clock, when almost everyone else was still asleep. I decided, uncharacteristically, to seize the moment and make a solo trip to town for a big grocery shop. Sunday morning is absolutely the best time to hit the supermarket, but I so rarely stir my stumps before late morning on the weekends, and I usually do my shopping in bits and pieces with one or more short people trailing after me. It was a luxury, then, to be able to get in, get the stuff, and get out, and even the twenty-mile round-trip in the rain wasn’t much of a bother.
When I came home, I tossed a roast in the crock pot, set it to be ready for dinner, and patted myself on the back for my efficiency. As a reward, I took a long nap after lunch, so I didn’t even miss out on any sleep. It was a day full of win. I think I may have a new Sunday system in the works.
Mad woman!!
I picture all of the cows, running out of the barn screaming like kids let out on the last day of school and throwing undergarments in the air! 🙂
I love shopping at odd hours when there is hardly anyone in the store. So much more peaceful that way.
