Sunday Morning, 11 A. M.

According to Olof, Night Two of night-weaning went well and Tage slept from 11pm until 8:30am, waking only once. I’m hoping this continues and that we can go back soon to our normal sleeping arrangements. It might be easier to accomplish if we gave him a bottle, but since he’s never had a bottle I don’t want to introduce one now (I’m not sure how successful it would be at this late date, anyway). I just don’t want the hassle of weaning him from the breast, only to have to wean him from the bottle a year or so from now. Although being as we’re in Sweden, I could just let him continue on the bottle forever, as seems to be the custom here. Seriously, Lydia had a friend overnight last night, and this little girl–who just turned SIX–still goes to bed with a bottle. That’s a bit much, if you ask me.

The big EMU-referendum is today, and according the the polls, the results are more uncertain than ever after the murder last week of Anna Lindh. There has been so much speculation in the past couple of days about whether her death will bring about a lot of sympathy “yes” votes, and whether the anticipation of a wave of such sympathy votes will spur a lot of “no” voters who may have stayed home, feeling assured of a “no” victory, to turn out at the polls after all. It will be interesting, to say the least. Regardless of my ineligibilty to vote, I have had a strong “no” feeling all along, but that feeling and the referendum in general pale in comparison to the death of Anna Lindh. I just can’t bring myself to care one way or the other now about the Euro.

  1. Here in Canada, I’ve been hassled by a G.P. doctor, the health unit nurses AND a pediatrician about getting my 13 month old off the bottle. They’re all worried about his teeth and that he may be getting most of his nutrition via liquids rather than solids (since he’s really dropped off on the weight charts). So we’ve done the difficult thing and only give him the sippy cup (without the stopper than makes it not drip – apparently that’s the way you’re supposed to go now as well). Sigh, this wasn’t as difficult with my 6 year old.

  2. We’ve tried giving Tage the sippy cup the same way, but he’s way more interested in pouring the milk or water all over the floor than in drinking it!
