This is the way we wash our clothes

I just had one of those rare, yet wholly welcome, fortuitious laundry mishaps. I washed a load of towels, etc., and one of the things in the load was a pair of socks my mom had accidentally left here when she visited (yes, it was almost six months ago and I’m just now getting around to washing them). Since the socks were a dark color and I wasn’t sure if they had been washed before, I put them in with a load that wouldn’t be ruined if the color bled. When I opened the washer I had a nice surprise, in that the socks had appeared to be black but must really have been a dark green, and my load of towels and one sheet are now a lovely shade of dark seafoam green. It’s really quite nice, and I think I’m going to throw them in with a load of off-white sheets I have and hope their coloring power wasn’t all used up on the first load. Ah, the zany adventures and dare-devil risks of the modern housewife . . .

I got a little package in the mail today from my Secret Sister (part of an exchange I’m doing with a group of online friends). It was three bottles of Skin So Soft lotion in different scents (oh, they smell so good!), and two little makeup travel bags, one of which could easily double as a handbag. I love nice, thoughtful surprises like that.

Not much on for the rest of the day. I’m hoping Tage will take his nap soon (I’m the disorganized type of mother who just lets him fall asleep whenever he feels like it), then I think I’ll brew up some chai. Debbie and Helena just may have created a monster with that stuff.

  1. I love to dye things. What a bonus when it comes as a surprise! You’re so lucky to have some great friends so close. Chai is better with company.

  2. You’re right about the company — I tried to share a cup last night with Lydia, but she definitely wasn’t impressed! 🙂
