All night long

We’re gearing up for a long night here.  Lydia is scheduled for a sleep EEG tomorrow morning at 7:15, and she needs to be up all night so that she’s tired enough to doze off during the test.  While I’m complaining, though, Lydia herself is all but celebrating.  Not only does she get to stay up all night–something she’s never been allowed, let alone encouraged, to do–but she also gets to stay home from school tomorrow.  It’s a win-win.  Of course, that pesky EEG business does take away some of the shine, but for the moment it seems to her a small price to pay.

  1. Hi! Have meant to ask you something? When you order stuff from the US, is it mostly new stuff or used through eBay? If it is new stuff, have you had any problems with customs and extra fees (+25% etc)? I want to order a KitchenAid and I figured that even with the extra 25% + whatever other fees, it would be cheaper to order it from the States than buying it here in Sweden.

  2. Anna — most of what I buy from the States I buy over eBay (some of it is used, some of it isn’t). I have occasionally bought directly from “regular” merchants, and two or three times we’ve had to pay MOMS. I’ve never had to pay any charge above the extra 25%, and even with that, you’re right that a KitchenAid would still be cheaper. You would have to take into account shipping, though (those things are HEAVY), and the fact that you’d have to have a power transformer. Have you looked into buying from the UK? You’d have to switch out the power cord, but you’d be okay on wattage/voltage/whatever (I don’t really understand all that stuff), and you’d probably still come out ahead.

  3. You’re right, maybe UK could be an option. The pound is cheap now so.. However, my boyfriend is an engineer and can do quite a lot of electric stuff so maybe he could fix an American one… Anyway, I think I will need to give it a little bit more thinking. Thanks for the advice!

  4. No biggie, Deb … it’s just a baseline they like to do every couple of years to see how everything’s going with her epilepsy. She hasn’t had any seizures or anything for ages. 🙂
