Packing my bags

In just a couple of hours Olof and I will be packing up Tage, Petra, and the dogs and dropping them off at Farmor’s before heading off to the airport for our whirlwind trip to the nation’s capital.  Brynja’s coming with us, of course, and Lydia’s staying at the house with Helena for a girl’s night (actually, I expect she’ll end up sleeping over at a friend’s house, but either way, it’s all good).

I’ll be taking my little, tiny computer with me as well, so I will in theory be able to update from Stockholm, but I’m afraid I might be too tired after all the running around and socializing and whatnot–particularly given that I woke up at 4:30 this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep–and I’d really hate to break my nearly six-month streak of every-day posting, so I might as well write down a little something now, while I have the time.

What I won’t be taking with me, much to my annoyance, is a pair of tweezers.  Since we’re not checking any baggage for such a short trip, and since in the interest of stamping out terrorism tweezers have been forbidden in carry-on luggage, I will not be able to pluck my eyebrows for more than a day.  More than one whole day.  Ordinarily I could deal with this insult rather more magnanimously, but during that one whole day, I’m going to have access to a hotel bathroom, and every dedicated brow-plucker knows that hotel bathrooms have awesome, awesome lighting.

I confess, I very nearly decided to go ahead and check a bag, just so I could take along my tweezers and come home with perfectly groomed eyebrows.  It would almost be worth it.  I also considered, ever so briefly, taking my chances and trying to smuggle my tweezers in my hand luggage, but I would hate more than I can say to have them confiscated and risk never seeing them again.  So, I guess there’s nothing to do but accept this little fly in the ointment that is my mini-vacation.  I’ll do my best to enjoy myself anyway.

  1. Haha 🙂 You could also buy some tweezers for 20 kr at H&M (it’s less than a latte!). Or hope for the hotel room to have bad lighting – most hotel I’ve stayed at (mostly outside Sweden) have had bad lighting so I always risk getting a unibrow while on vacation 🙂

  2. I sort of considered that, too, but my personal tweezers are super-duper magical tweezers, and anything for H&M (or anywhere else, for that matter) just won’t do! 😉

I usually find that hotel bathrooms have really intense fluorescent lighting that really doesn’t do my complexion (or the rest of me, for that matter!) any favors. It is, however, excellent for exposing those brow hairs that I never even see in my mirrors at home.
