V-Day

I feel like some sort of super-mom right now. I’m supposed to take Valentine’s Day treats to Lydia’s after-school program at three o’clock this afternoon, and here it is not quite ten in the morning, and I have everything finished and ready to go. Ordinarily I’m a very last-minute kind of person, so I’m pretty impressed with myself. I have two dozen sugar cookies and two dozen chocolate cupcakes, all decorated according to a hearts and flowers theme. Now I’m just hoping that all those little Swedish kids don’t turn their noses up at my buttercream frosting (they usually do, actually, so I went pretty light on the frosting this time).

Lydia’s pretty excited about Valentine’s Day … I think it’s all the pink and the hearts. My mom sent her a box of valentine cards a couple of weeks ago, and she filled them out for all of her classmates last night and took them with her to school this morning. I’ve never been too big on Valentine’s Day myself, but most kids (American ones, at least) seem to like it. Now if only we had some of those candy hearts!
