One more reason to love Sweden

Kanelbullensdag, or Cinnamon Bun Day, observed every year on the fourth of October. Usually it passes without my giving it much notice, but this year it was in the back of my mind because I had seen it noted on the kids’ school-lunch menus earlier in the week.

Around noon yesterday, Helena called and said that Debbie would be coming out later and that they’d come by my place in a couple of hours.  I made a roll cake for us to  have with coffee and was in the middle of a quick tidy-up when I remembered Cinnamon Bun Day.

“I have a hostess dilemma!” I told Olof.

“What,” he asked, deadpan, “not enough coffee cups?”  (For those who don’t know, I have easily a hundred coffee cups, and haven’t stopped buying them.)

I made a face at him, then answered, “No.  It’s National Kanelbulle Day, but I’m not sure if I have enough time to make a batch.”

He assured me that if I didn’t get them made in time to serve them to my friends, he would eat their share, so I dropped the vacuum and hurried to the kitchen to whip up the dough.

As it turned out, I had just enough time;  the buns finished their second rise and went into the oven just a few minutes after our guests arrived.  All things considered, I think the roll cake was better, but I felt like such a good little hausfrau with my proper treat on the proper day.

In other news, the turning around of Tage’s schedule is going rather better than I had expected.  Both Tuesday and last night he fell asleep between 9 and 9:30 and stayed asleep until morning.  He didn’t have school this morning, so I did go back to bed with him after Lydia left–old habits die hard, you know–and we didn’t get up until 11:00.  We’re both nursing a cold, so the extra rest did us good, but I’m hoping it doesn’t come back to bite me tonight at bedtime.

Also bedtime-wise, we’ve been working for the past week on night-weaning Petra, which for us means that Olof takes her downstairs and sleeps with her for an unspecified period of time until she’s adjusted to not nursing in the night.  This arrangement is, of course, much better for me than it is for Olof, but I’m not losing any sleep over it (haha, I kill me).

  1. That was a good one!
My bet is that letting Tage sleep in will end up biting you in the butt. But then you knew you’d get no sympathy from me (the morning person). 😛 xoxox
