I know I’m skating on thin ice where the purists are concerned, but I feel obliged to report on my latest un-semla antics. Last night I made saffransemlor med lingongrädde and I beheld them and they were good. Recipe forthcoming.

Oh my gosh, I think I gained a kilo just looking at that!
My mom, Agneta, is Swedish (now living in NY where I grew up), and we make semlor at home too, since you can’t find them in American bakeries. They.are.awesome. A few years ago when my aunt had her third baby, my mom and I were in Stockholm during semlor season and we couldn’t make it a single day day without hitting a coffee shop for that creamy-almondy goodness. Thanks for posting about this – it’s good to see that others share one’s more obscure obsessions.
