Progress

Finally, after a week, I’m feeling mostly better. The antibiotics worked quickly enough on the inflammation, but the exhaustion and flu-like symptoms have taken longer to recede and I’m only now feeling up to dealing with the household on my own for a full day. Poor Olof is probably dying to go in to the office after having been home with us for all but a handful of hours since I got sick. As for me, while I’m not exactly looking forward to him being gone all day, I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t ready to get back to regular life and a semblance of routine.

It’s a bit of a puzzle how I ended up with mastitis in the first place, given Yrsa’s relatively advanced age. The nearest I can figure is that the infection must have crept in via the two puncture wounds left a couple of weeks ago when she bit me hard enough not only to rouse me instantly from a deep sleep but also to send me running to the bathroom for something to soak up the blood. That was a special kind of wake-up, y’all.

In any case, I’m hoping it’s all a distant memory sooner rather than later, ’cause mastitis is something you don’t never wanna have. I haven’t felt so bad since I had what I now suspect was swine flu almost four years ago, and that was the absolute worst I remember ever feeling.

In other, more interesting news, I found out last week, not long before I headed out to the doctor’s office, that I got accepted to the master’s program I applied to last winter. So, come August, there’ll be one more Tjerngren heading back to school.
