Olof’s taken Yrsa off to the doctor’s office for a weigh-in, so I suppose I should take this little bit of free time and do some updating. I wanted to post a couple of pictures of the baby — she’s two weeks old today! — but I can’t find the cord for my camera, so that will have to wait.
Anyway, things are going along well. I feel good, nearly back to normal, and Yrsa has blended almost seamlessly into our family. It’s still early days, of course, but we haven’t had any major meltdowns or jealousy issues from the other kids, which is probably due partly to them all being used to sharing our attention and partly (or mostly) to the fact that both Olof and I are home and available. I’m sure things would be much different if I were trying to manage everyone and everything on my own.
We’ve managed to get back to our normal routines, more or less, even getting all of the older kids to school every day. Lydia, of course, can handle that herself, but I confess that there have been a couple of days since the baby came that getting Tage and/or Petra up out of bed and off to school proved too much for me and I gave in to the temptation just to go back to bed and let them do what they would. But not only are we past that now, but I also took Tage to both of his violin lessons this week (man, are my violin skills rusty after not picking up my instrument for six weeks), and I also got Lydia to and from her snowboard class.
Before I go patting myself on the back too much, however, I should probably mention that the Christmas decorations are still up and mountains of clothes have very nearly taken over the laundry room (they’re mountains of clean clothes, at least). Lydia reminded me a few days ago that last year I paid her to take down the holiday trappings (and I wasn’t even pregnant or newly delivered then — for shame!), and I think we may be heading in that direction again. When I got all the stuff out in December, I didn’t find anything wrong with the way it had been packed up, so clearly she did an acceptable job. The laundry’s another story. I’m very particular about the way it’s done, but I suppose I could probably delegate some folding and putting-away. Or I could get off the computer and go get a little folding done myself before Olof comes home with a hungry baby.
I’m here to make you feel better because most of my Christmas stuff is still up as well. I have not just given birth AND have only one child! So don’t feel so bad! I did manage to take the ornaments off the tree but the tree is still up! And as I right this Santa and the Mrs and a little elf are staring at me from the dvd shelves! 😉 But anyway, sounds like you are doing an amazing job, considering! You are my hero!
Hey Beverly! Glad to hear that things are going smoothly with the new little one. Can’t wait to see pictures. You are doing a great job!! Take care, Stacy
Go REST goofus!
Oh, and I’ve only got 3 kids… the tree is at least down… and sitting in a pile in the living room corner, but the stockings are still hung by the chimney with something that does NOT resemble care… and the boxes of ornaments are kinda just sitting there!
