Update

We had an appointment with the midwife on Thursday morning, and as expected, all is well. Aside from iron levels, my numbers are all good. Babe is following the growth curve perfectly and is now head down (I suspected as much, having been pretty sure that hard bulge up under my ribs was a little bottom and not a head, but the ultrasound confirmation was nice). What’s more, s/he is engaged in that position, which makes a move back to breech presentation pretty unlikely (though, I confess, it’s not doing a whole lot for my pelvic pain).

Next Wednesday I hit the 37-week mark, which means that I’ll be officially full-term, though my due date isn’t until January 5. I’m hoping, hoping, hoping that the baby will decide to come three weeks from today, on New Year’s Day, but I realize that’s maybe a bit too specific. I know three or four weeks seems right around the corner to everybody else, but I’m still too much in the thick of it to think anything more than a couple of days is soon. Every day gets us that much closer, though, and I know from experience that a month from now I’ll be thinking, Wow, that just flew by.

  1. RIGHT after I delivered Kevin the midwife gave me a hot bag of rice… It was dry rice placed in an elasticy sock type thingie that she had nuked for a minute or so. I put that against the pelvic bone where I was hurting so badly and it felt like HEAVEN… You may want to give it a shot? The rice makes it easy to conform the ‘package’ to the area you are placing it and it holds heat a good while.

I’m so excited for you! Keep that baby baking just a little longer, and I’ll be sending labor and delivery vibes on the first for ya! You guys gonna do a hospital birth or a home birth? I figure you’ve got the experience to do it at home by now, but I’m not sure. Were I to do it again I might just choose to try homebirth! Kevin and Caitlyn were both such easy deliveries!

    Hang in there, girl!

  2. We’ll be doing a hospital birth again, since there are no homebirth midwives up here and I don’t want to do an unassisted birth. If I had the proper support available to me, however, I’d be all over a homebirth! As it is, I’m just hoping babe comes in the morning so we can go home the same day. Staying overnight in the hospital is torture.

  3. I’m hoping mine will stay in until around my due date 9 January. Want to avoid New Year’s if possible though I wouldn’t mind 1 January – but I would mine 31 December (due to schools, etc. that you wrote about as well before). And I’m happy I get to stay as long as two days in the hospital! But then again it’s my first, so.. 🙂
