Baby stuff

We had an appointment this afternoon for a quick ultrasound to check on the baby’s growth, and everything looks just the way it should in there. We tried to get see if we could get a glimpse of boy parts or girl parts, but the baby was not at all cooperative, keeping his/her legs firmly together, and going so far as to put a hand down in the general area as an additional shield when the midwife zoomed in for a closer look. I’m not terribly disappointed, though, as I do think the surprise is fun and I feel a little relieved now that we didn’t find out the gender just yet. We do have another ultrasound scheduled in four weeks (ah, the perks of “advanced maternal age”), so we’ll have another chance then to sneak a peek, if we’re of a mind.

  1. I don’t want to know so I’m pretty happy I don’t need to do anymore scans than the regular one (+ the earlier one I did). So after a certain age you get more scans?

  2. Nik, I’m trying to hold out! I actually prefer the surprise, but it’s mighty tempting when you’re there in a room with someone willing to tell you! And for some reason, Olof is anxious to find out this time — usually he wants to wait.

Anna, I guess you do get more scans when you’re a little older (I’m 37), at least up here where we are. This is the first time I’ve had more than one in a pregnancy, and other than my age, everything else is exactly the same as it’s been with the others. *shrug*
