For some reason, I keep seeing these ads for nursing covers, touted by sellers as a way to “discreetly” breastfeed your baby in public, and they’ve got me scratching my head.\u00a0 I mean, I can understand wanting to keep yourself covered up a bit, but this doesn’t exactly scream “discretion,” does it?<\/p>\n

\nReally–once you get past thinking it’s a strait jacket–isn’t a bit more, “Hey, look at me over here and wonder just what the hell I’m doing!”?<\/p>\n

Me, I just can’t be too fussed about who might or might not get a glimpse of flesh when I’m feeding my baby.\u00a0 Modesty or lack thereof aside, my boobs and my baby and my clothes give me enough to try to handle;\u00a0 the last thing I need is a tent to maneuver as well.<\/p>\n

I do realize that not every place is as friendly to breast-feeding moms as Sweden is, but honestly, the hassle of a cover does seem a ridiculous extreme, even in my prudish homeland.\u00a0 I refuse to believe that any mom using one of these things imagines she doing anything other than drawing more<\/em> attention to herself, so it’s probably not for her own comfort that she trusses herself up like that.\u00a0 Wouldn’t it just be a better solution all the way around for the non-involved parties to avert their eyes from the boob when they encounter a woman nursing?\u00a0 Is that too much to ask?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
