For the past several years I’ve been hanging around with three other American girls who lived up here in the Skellefteå area.\u00a0 Despite our coming from different parts of the country and from fairly diverse backgrounds, we’ve forged what I think are strong, meaningful friendships, both with each other individually and as a group.\u00a0 The four of us work really well together, and while we’ve had our tiffs and periods of tension, we managed to remain a fairly cohesive little gang.\u00a0 Until now.<\/p>\n
First, it was Helena who left us, first moving down to southern Sweden after New Year’s, then relocating to Ireland early last month.\u00a0 Now it’s Melanie who’s going, moving back to the States after more than four years with us.\u00a0\u00a0 After next week it will be just me and Debbie left in our American “ladies who lunch” club.\u00a0 I have to admit I’m feeling a little bereft.<\/p>\n
It’s a good thing we do have some other friends who join us from time to time, and also that we have six kids between us (good lord, are there really that many?!);\u00a0 otherwise, things would be pretty lonely at our future get-togethers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
