Skip the fancy flavors and the sugar coating — just give me plain oat rings and I’ll be happy. There’s really nothing else like them for combating nausea (especially early-pregnancy nausea), and they make a great finger food for little kids, plus they’re just darn tasty.

Imagine my surprise and delight, then, when I saw a “new” flavor of Cheerios in the grocery store a couple of weeks ago. Oat! Just oat! I snapped up a box and hoped against hope that these would be the old stand-by of my halcyon days. When I got home and poured myself a bowl, however, it was as I’d feared: they weren’t the same. True, they were closer than anything else I’ve seen in Sweden, but they were still too sugary. I shouldn’t have let that beige box fool me.

I’ve got to thinking, though … maybe they’ve changed the recipe in the States as well. Maybe all Cheerios have more sugar now than they did ten years ago. Could it be? Can anyone confirm or or deny?

One of the things from the States I have missed most, and most consistently, since I moved to Sweden is Cheerios.
