It’s been snowing lightly all day, and we’ve got a pretty good cover out on the lawn now. In preparation for what’s surely to come, we drove to town earlier in the day and bought Tage a new pair of good quality snowboots (and I have to admit that I’m more amused by the brand name of the boots — Super Beaver! — than I ought to be).
\nMy own new boots, purchased last week, seem to be doing their job well so far. Winter’s barely begun, of course, so they haven’t been given a true test yet, but I’m hopeful. In any case, they keep my feet nice and toasty-warm.<\/p>\n
I had occasion yesterday afternoon to use the new car’s four-wheel drive for the first time, and it worked a charm. We were heading up a friend’s steep and slippery driveway when the tires started to spin, but I just popped it into 4WD and we were out of there in nothing flat. I don’t actually figure we’ll be having to use it much–we have lived for years and years with just front-wheel drive, after all–but it is nice to have it as an option.<\/p>\n
Not really related to winter, but fitting the theme where cold is concerned, is that we’ve also been looking into buying a deep-freeze. All we’ve got now is our refrigerator’s freezer compartment, which doesn’t hold nearly as much as I’d like (and has absolutely no room for a turkey, which I’d like to buy soon, seeing as Thanksgiving is just around the corner and I hate leaving it to the last minute). If it were up to me, I’d just go the the store and buy the one I thought was cutest, but Olof, of course, has to hole up with product reviews and price comparisons and all that, so it seems that a quick purchase is out of the question. At least turkeys are more readily available here now than they were several years ago, so I’m not too worried that I’ll miss the opportunity to get one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
