This past weekend I made a whirlwind trip down to Stockholm to attend a going-away bash for a friend who is moving back to South Africa. I had half-expected to feel a little subdued the entire evening, considering that my big belly and I would be abstaining from anything stronger than Pepsi, but as it turned out, the words “frenetic” and “edgy” were more apt to describe the whole affair. It was a good time, but there were so many people and so much activity that I had a hard time staying focused. Even so, I stayed until the bitter end, when the bar closed at 3 a.m.–I’d had the remarkable foresight to book a room at a hotel two doors down from the party venue–and I really enjoyed the relaxed air that took over once the crowd was down to a manageable size.<\/p>\n

Sunday I had time for a quick lunch with some of the girls (and one of the guys, but he left abruptly after a mysterious phone call), where we rehashed events and traded gossip from the night before. I was sorry I had to leave in the middle of things, as that get-together was one of the highlights of my all-too-brief trip. We all agreed that smaller groups are much more fun, and that it can be especially nice when it’s just the girls. While I don’t wish that Iived in Stockholm, I do often wish that I lived closer enough to my friends there to be able to get together more often with them.<\/p>\n

I didn’t have a camera with me, but I did nab a few photos from friends. Here’s one I especially like (that’s the guest of honor in the middle, and the lovely Lotta is the object of our adoration):<\/p>\n
