One month from today, my mom will be arriving in Stockholm for a month-long visit to Sweden. We haven’t seen her since her last visit, in the fall of 2003. This is by far the longest I’ve ever gone without seeing my mom, and with every passing day I get more and more excited about her being here. For the past couple of months, our weekly phone calls have been filled with vacation plans and shopping lists. I think we’ve made enough requests to fill my mom’s luggage allowance a couple of times over — good thing we have laundry facilities, ’cause she’s not going to have much room in her suitcases for clothes!<\/p>\n
I am a little embarrassed about her coming to Sweden, though, just because everything here is so much more expensive than in the States. Not only that, but the dollar is so low against the crown right now that it’s costing Americans a small fortune to play tourist.
