Tage was yelling and rolling around and rough-housing with the girls and generally driving us nuts.  I kept asking him to settle down, but he just got wilder.  At one point he pulled a blanket over his head and started shrieking, over and over, &#8220;I&#8217;m a scary ghost!  WOOOOOOOO!&#8221;\n<p>Finally, I exclaimed, &#8220;Tage, you&#8217;re making us crazy!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Crazy?&#8221; he asked,  &#8220;I not crazy.&#8221;  He whipped the blanket off his head and held up his hands, looking the very picture of reason.  &#8220;Look,&#8221; he told us, &#8220;I perfectly normal.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>This past Friday Lydia was getting ready to go to a birthday party, and she asked me if she could use some of a scented lotion that I have.  I said she could, and a few minutes later she came to me and said she had a bit of a problem.  I looked up and saw that she had rivers of lotion running down her forearms.  &#8220;I tried to take just a little, but it came out too fast,&#8221; she told me.\n<p>I helped her get most of the lotion off, leaving just a small amount for her to rub into her hands.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s better,&#8221; she said.  &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to smell <i>super<\/i> good.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>This afternoon all of us were in the car coming back from town and Petra started crying.\n<p>&#8220;Ohhh, what&#8217;s the matter, Petra?&#8221; I asked in my soothing, mommy voice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think she sad,&#8221; Tage offered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;She&#8217;s probably getting tired,&#8221; I told him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No,&#8221; he said matter-of-factly.  &#8220;I made her sad.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>A few weeks ago, on June 21, Lydia and I were driving to town for our monthly lunch date.  During a lull in the conversation, I said, &#8220;Hey, Lydi, you know what?  Today&#8217;s the longest day of the year.&#8221;\n<p>&#8220;Is it?&#8221; she asked.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yep.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oh,&#8221; she mused, &#8220;I thought it was <i>L&aring;ngfredag<\/i>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><i>(In Swedish, Good Friday is called L&aring;ngfredag, which translates to &#8220;Long Friday.&#8221;<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One night last week, the kids and I were lying and talking on my bed.
