Olof came home from the store this afternoon with a frozen turkey … now we won’t be birdless on the big day! To be honest, I knew that the grocery store would have them in this afternoon, because I sent Olof on a turkey-finding mission late last week, and they told him that they would have turkeys this week. In fact, turkey (or more precisely, kalkon<\/i>) was on the shopping list I sent with him to the store, so his coming home with it wasn’t quite the triumphant return of epic poetry, but I’m pleased all the same. I’m somewhat less pleased about the price–a bit more than thirty dollars for a ten-pound turkey–but since Thanksgiving comes only once a year, it’s a small price to pay (no pun intended).<\/p>\n
The only thing I’ve been unable to track down for our feast is cranberries, but that’s a small enough problem, since lingonsylt<\/i> is quite nearly the same thing. As far as the rest goes, I have sweet potatoes waiting in the wings to be candied to perfection (thanks to my friend Heather, I have the most delicious sweet potato recipe), and there is a plenitude of mashed pumpkin in my freezer that will shortly be transformed into pumpkin pie and other pumpkin-y goodness. All that’s left to do is talk to Helena and Debbie to iron out the details of who’s bringing what, and what time we’ll be eating on Saturday.
