I talked Olof into a trip to Alhems Trädgård, a local nursery, this afternoon, and I’m so glad I did. They’re having a sale on their summer plants, and I got three geraniums and two begonias for 65 SEK (eight U.S. dollars, give or take). Too bad I didn’t realize until the salesgirl rang everything up that everything was so cheap, or I’d have loaded up the car with geraniums — usually those plants are about 60 SEK each<\/i>. I think another visit out there tomorrow is definitely in order.<\/p>\n

Without further ado, here are the newest additions:<\/p>\n

This is Vancouver Centennial, a stjärnpelargon<\/i> with red flowers. This is a gorgeous, sturdy plant that was an absolute steal at 15 SEK. It blew over in the wind before I got a chance to re-pot it, and a couple of the stems broke off, but I was able to salvage one to root as a cutting, so soon there will be two.<\/p>\n

This is Fireworks Salmon, another stjärnpelargon,<\/i> here with pink flowers. This is a nice plant, too, but a bit leggy and it will need some cutting back.<\/p>\n

Finally, I bought this eggshell variety, which I think is lovely but unfortunately didn’t have a tag. I think it might be one of the Ripple varieties (Strawberry or Raspberry), but it’s so hard to tell from looking at pictures online. The flowers don’t show up so well here, but the petals are salmon-speckled white, with darker salmon centers. Occasionally all or part of a petal will be a bright orange-red, which is a nice contrast. The plant itself is extremely leggy, and the stems are quite bowed, so I’ll have to cut it back quite a bit (or I may just make a number of cuttings and scrap the mother plant … we’ll see).<\/p>\n

I didn’t take any pictures of the begonias because they’re looking a bit worse for wear. I’m hoping it’s nothing that new pots and some TLC won’t take care of, so maybe I’ll have pictures of them later.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
