I could hardly believe my eyes when I got out of bed this morning and was greeted by clear blue skies. I think I’d almost forgotten what how nice a real summer day could be.

After lunch we drove down to Lövånger, a town about a half-hour south of here, to go to the annual handcrafts fair they have at the old church village there. There were a few things I was interested in buying, but I wasn’t interested enough to make a trip to the ATM to take out money, so we left empty-handed. A couple of years ago I got a great little applewood butter knife there that one of the dogs ended up eating, and I was tempted to replace it, but not tempted enough apparently. Places like that are always easier to navigate without the kids in tow, and I had taken Asbjørn along as well, which made it that much harder to do a thorough browsing of all the stands. It’s probably just as well, though, since my pocketbook doesn’t really need the hit just now.

I had wanted to check out the local flower shop while we were there, but they closed by the time we got over to that side of the street. When will I start remembering that everything in Sweden closes early on Saturdays? I was pretty disappointed that I didn’t make it in there, and now I’ve got myself convinced that the place was chock-full of rare and beautiful geranium varieties. Oh, the pain of missing out!

When we got home I spent most of the rest of the afternoon outside puttering around and Olof worked in the garage sanding the door for Lydia’s new room. I’m pretty happy with my lawn and flowerbeds these days. This is the first year since we bought the house that I’ve done much in the way of beautification projects, and I’m really started to feel inspired to make a flower extravaganza out there next summer. I’d forgotten until recently how much fun greenhouses and flower gardening can be.

I took a picture of the front of the house a couple of hours ago to remind myself later that it doesn’t always rain here. Also, I usually take pictures from my balcony or out an upstairs window, so posting a picture of my own house is a nice change of pace.

And here’s a picture of my faithful companion, Asbjørn, waiting patiently for me to come back on the porch:

It’s been warm and sunny all day long with scarcely a cloud in the sky.
