I’m starting to resign myself to the fact that this will be one of those infamous gloomy, rainy Swedish summers. I honestly cannot remember the last day that it didn’t rain. Our grass has grown at least six inches high from all the extra watering, and I haven’t been able to mow because it’s so wet. I think I’m going to have to break down and do it tomorrow, come rain or shine, both because I’m getting a little embarrassed by it and because Olof is dying for me to try out the new lawnmower he bought and assembled this week. Plus, I promised to do it if he’d go to the gas station and buy chips and dip, and we shook on it.<\/p>\n
As accompaniment to our chips and dip, we’re having Malibu rum and Coke and it’s damn tasty. Olof gave me his one-eyebrow-raised unconvinced look when I suggested the combination, but it took only a sip to make a believer out of him. There’s not much that can’t be made better with a generous splash of Malibu.<\/p>\n
I just heard sounds of David Letterman’s opening monologue coming from the living room, so I’d better hurry in and watch it. I’m totally a Letterman kind of girl, and these days I’m rarely up late enough to watch him. It’s a combination of that accursed midnight sun and the unstructured days and nights of summer vacation. Poor Lydia — I’ve been wishing away her break from school almost as soon as it started.<\/p>\n
