I did it partly to get them off my back about the whole business, and partly because I really do like my midwife and it seemed to matter to her more than it did to me. So, I didn’t eat anything after 8 p.m. and didn’t drink after midnight (okay, I confess: I did have a couple of swallows of water when I got up in the morning, but anyone in my position would have done the same), and I dragged myself out of the house at seven-thirty the next day and went to the hospital to drink the foul concoction.<\/p>\n
My blood was taken and tested both before and two hours after I drank a half-liter of super-strength sugar water — on an empty stomach, ugh — and both times the results were perfectly normal. On the low side of normal, even. Color me less than surprised. While some of the care providers I’ve seen have seemed to view my reluctance to take the test as some sort of wanton disregard for the health of the little being currently pummeling my insides like it’s going out of style (“But it’s for the baaaaayyy-beeeeee! The baaaaayyy-beeeee is in danger!”), you may rest assured that if I had had the slightest reason to be concerned, I would have been on board for the testing from the get-go. I may be fat, and I may be old, but I am not stupid.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Earlier this week, I finally caved and went in for that accursed glucose tolerance test that I had been avoiding.
