Today is Mother’s Day in Sweden, which is probably as good a time as any to share the news that appears to have come as a surprise only to me. We’re expecting another baby — Number Five is scheduled to join us right after the first of the year.<\/p>\n
I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t have mixed feelings about this. We hadn’t entirely ruled out the possibility of another, but the more time passed, the more we were leaning toward calling it good. Also, the timing isn’t fantastic … we’re planning a big trip to the States in summer 2011, and it would have been nice to do that traveling without an infant in tow.<\/p>\n
There are a few other factors at play here, too. My age, of course, is one. I turned 37 last month, and that’s a bit older than I ever imagined myself to be and still having babies. There will be fourteen years and change between Lydia and this new little one, which is a gap that kind of blows my mind. Another worry, though I know it isn’t particularly rational, is that I have a lot of friends who are struggling with infertility, and I feel like I’m announcing a pregnancy every time I turn around. And not just any pregnancy, but an unplanned pregnancy. Sheesh.<\/p>\n
Still, I’m starting to wrap my mind around this, and I know it will all work out just fine. We’re perfectly well set-up to have another baby, and any concerns I’ve got are minor ones.
