Our old friend, the idiopathic stabbing headache<\/a>, is playing a return engagement, showing up just behind my left ear last Wednesday evening and apparently hell-bent on staying on, despite having worn out its welcome days ago. Fucker.<\/p>\n I have found an over-the-counter migraine medication that keeps the pain at bay relatively well, but it makes me terribly groggy in the process. It’s five o’clock in the evening right now, and so far I’ve spent more hours asleep today than awake. It’s that bad.<\/p>\n Also not ideal, pain-medication-wise, is that I’m supposed to take a pill only every four hours, but the stabs comes back after about three-and-three-quarters hours. On top of that, it takes a half-hour or so for the medicine to kick in, so I spend about forty-five minutes of every four hours feeling like someone is bashing me in the head at unpredictable intervals with a ball-peen hammer.
